Nature: sea, lagoon and nature reserves

Fine golden sand, blue flag for the protection of the environment and water quality and many services: these are the three main features of the beach of Grado, which with its many facilities lends itself to accommodate and to meet the most diverse expectations in an excellent way. Special services for families, sportsmen and lovers of relaxation make Grado beach perfect for every need.

Few people know that the territory of Grado includes as many as 30 islands. Only Grado, the island of Schiusa, connected to Grado with two bridges, and the island of Barbana are inhabited. The hinterland is also interesting for its natural value: in the fraction of Fossalon, known for its agricultural value, is the Valle Cavanata nature reserve, an uncontaminated place, loved by birdwatchers for the many varieties of birds that they can observe, the pink flamingos every fall in the last few years stationed here for a few days. You can reach the nature reserve along a beautiful cycle path, along which you will be fascinated by the wonderful views of the lagoon. There are also striking views of Grado città, one of the most beautiful you can admire walking along the seafront Nazario Sauro, where the view embraces the sea of Grado, the Istrian coast, the Karst and the city of Trieste in a single glance.

The historical city centre of Grado

The nostalgic and lovers of the retro atmosphere will be seduced by ‘Grado vecchia’ (the oldest part of the town), that is dominated/overlooked by the Basilica of Santa Eufemia of early Christian epoch, the ‘Anzolo di San Michele’, the historical symbol of Grado, and the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie, the oldest of the town. The current heart of the historical city center, however, is around Piazza Biagio Marin, dedicated to the famous local poet; here you can find the remains of the ancient settlement of the Basilica della Corte and very close to it there are a lot of coffee bars, pubs and restaurants. The historical centre is a pedestrian area.
